The museum of olive trees and Greek olive oil is a modern thematic museum situated in Sparta, one of the main olive producing locations in Greece. It is the only museum in Greece that features the uses of the olive tree and its products through time. Olive oil is such a humble product and was used mainly for nutrition, but not only. By walking through the corridors of the museum we will understand its importance and how it affected culture, religion, customs and other aspects of our lives. Furthermore, we will be able to learn about the production of olive oil and how it developed through time, from the Neolithic period up to today, with the help of exact replicas and original olive presses from the 19th and 20th century.***The visit lasts for about 1 hour. It is closed on Tuesdays. Entrance fees 3 euros, over 65 years old free.
