The Archaeological museum of Sparta is the oldest regional museum of Greece, founded in 1877. Inside there is a representative collection of the antiquities found in the region, some of which are unique, not to be found in other areas of ancient Greece, because of the particular culture of the Spartans. Inside we can see votive offerings from the famous sanctuaries of Sparta, statues and exhibits that are about their rituals, festivals and their everyday life. The visit of the museum lasts about 1 hour (1,5 hours with the addition of a historical summary of ancient Sparta). It is closed on Tuesdays. Entrance fee 2 euros (reduced 1 euro).
