“Ancient Sparti”
When we hear the name “Sparta“, it probably comes to our mind the name of one of its most famous king and general, Leonidas. Leonidas and his soldiers lived and walked on the same ground that we stand. We will see the modern statue of Leonidas, influenced by the ancient one that was found on the Akropolis of Sparta. There, among the olive trees, we will visit the ruins among others of the sanctuary of Chalkioikos Athena and the famous ancient theatre of Sparta, one of the biggest in antiquity, preserving its scene (stage) made of local marble. The view from there of the modern town framed by the two picturesque mountains of Parnon and Taygetos is majestic, while from there we are able to see Mystras, as well, on the foothill of Taygetos.***The visit lasts about 1 hour (1,5 hours with the addition of a historical summary of ancient Sparta). No entrance fees.
